當年Paul McCartney還只是個高中生，反戰與嬉皮的潮水還沒襲來。他參加一場派對，當時有群人正好在合唱一首法文歌。McCartney不會講法文，但是身為一個高中生，那種「輸人不輸陣」的拼勁當然要來一下！於是他只用幾句簡單的法文，外加模仿法文發音的亂唱呢喃混過去，好歹也保住了面子。

後來McCartney一直想在創作的曲子裡保留這種法文歌獨特的「左岸韻味」，卻遲遲無法辦到。" It was because I'd always thought that the song sounded French that I stuck with it. I can't speak French properly so that's why I needed help in sorting out the actual words."直到他得到了他老婆的法文老師Jan Vaughan的幫忙，才錄了這首《Michelle》。
